Nursery Progress

Zoe's nursery is coming along nicely. There are still several things to be done---we need to put in the bedding, hang a few pictures, wall letters, the window valance, possibly put in a rug, put in the changing pad/changing accessories, and other odds and ends. But, this is what we've come up with thus far. Oh, and the pink has grown on me. :- )

Prediction: Zoe's First Word

I have a prediction about Zoe's first word. While most babies say "dada" first, or possibly "mama", I think Zoe's first word will be "pepto." As in Pepto Bismol. As effective as I think Pepto Bismol is for a minor upset stomach, I don't think it's great as.....a paint color. Trevor and I had Zoe's room painted last Friday. We also had crown molding and a chair rail installed. Our contractor did a great job, but the shade of pink isn't as pale as it looked on the 2x2 color swatch. I was so disappointed! I remain hopeful that the color will grow on me, particularly once the furniture is in the room, the bedding is down and accessories are put in place. Surely all of this will tone down the "pepto" look. I can only hope....for Zoe's sake, and her mommy's. If not, we'll paint the room again.

While I can joke about this now, I must confess that I was a bit down about it on Saturday. Trevor and I talked about it Saturday morning and he asked why I was letting it get to me. He wondered if I was worried about what others would think. I started to explain that I just want the room to be perfect for Zoe. Although I know she won't "notice" the room for awhile, I want her to love the room once she's aware of it. And then I cried. Dang pregnancy hormones! It's only paint for crying out loud! (No pun intended....)

Nursery Woes Return

Much to my chagrin, I'm obsessing over Zoe's nursery bedding again. WHY???? I really thought we had it figured out....UNTIL I received Restoration Hardware Baby & Child's catalog in the mail. I LOVE their stuff!!! So, despite having crib bedding and matching accessories in my home for the bedding I thought we were going with, I've now ordered the below sets from RH. (Unfortunately their Baby & Child line isn't in stores yet) Once I have all three in my home, I will make a final decision. Thank God for 90 day return policies! I'm so happy we haven't started any painting yet and that all three sets will match our furniture.

I don't know why I'm making this so difficult! Actually, I do. First , because I make most decisions more difficult than necessary. Second, I'm making this difficult because in my mind I want Zoe's nursery to be perfect! But for whom? Zoe won't even know the difference! Trevor has been such a trooper. He indulges me, but I bet he's screaming on the inside. LOL.

Crib Bedding - Check!

We finally decided on Zoe's crib bedding. What a relief! Now we have to start thinking about general room decor, but that shouldn't be as difficult. I hope.

And the winner is....."Raspberry Truffle":

$1,166

I saw crib bedding in a magazine last night that I LOVED!! I was so excited and thought this could be it. Finally, the perfect nursery theme. A silvery blue and mocha set. Yummy! I was sure Trevor would like it too. I eagerly began my Google searches and found the set. YES, found it! Oh, h--- to the NO!!! $1,166 for a 4-piece crib set. 4 pieces as in a sheet, bumper, blanket and bed skirt? $1,166?! Are you kidding me?! Is the crib included?! The search continues....

Nursery Themes

I don't know if we're unique in this respect, but we are having a terrible time pinning down a nursery theme. I know we have plenty of time before Zoe arrives, but I don't want to scramble around at the end of my pregnancy trying to get a lot done. One bedding set we are considering won't be available for shipping until the end of December, so we really need to figure this out.

One thing we agree on is that we don't want anything too "kiddie" or juvenile. Thus, no animals, characters, letters and numbers, etc. I've found a few themes I like, but Trevor and I aren't seeing eye-to-eye on many of them, and I really want him to be involved in the process. I've ordered some fabric swatches for some bedding sets we both kind of like, so we'll see what happens. I never imagined that picking a nursery theme would be so difficult.

Operation Nursery Underway

Saturday Trevor and I made our first baby purchase. Actually that's not true. Trevor bought our first pack of newborn diapers on Friday. Awww!!! So on Saturday Trevor and I made our first nursery purchase. We ordered Baby D's furniture. YAY!!!! After searching high and low, we decided on a set that is manufactured in Europe; it converts from a crib to a toddler bed to a full-size bed. The quality is impeccable and the manufacturing is environmentally responsible. We're no environmentalists, but this was a bonus. What we especially like is that the furniture isn't manufactured in China, which is of great concern these days with all the lead laden crud imports, and there are no formaldehydes used. Also, the furniture has a number of safety features to prevent injury to Baby D. It will take 12 weeks for the furniture to be manufactured and shipped, however, the factory is closed the month of December. Thus, the furniture should arrive in late December/early January. Just in time for our little one.

Here are pics of the furniture. Besides the crib, we ordered the dresser/baby station (to the right in the photo) and the armoire. Unfortunately this pic doesn't show the armoire.

Now we need to figure out a nursery theme. We'll probably find out Baby D's gender at the end of the month, so that will bring some clarity to the theme decision. If we decide to wait and be surprised I don't know what we'll do because we haven't seen any gender neutral themes that we like. The manager at the furniture store gave us a good idea. If we decide to wait to find out Baby D's gender, which I kinda want to do, she said we can have Dr. S place the baby's gender in a sealed envelope for her eyes only. Then we can select boy bedding and girl bedding and she'll have the bedding/decor delivered to us in a sealed box, along with our furniture. When Baby D is born we can decorate the nursery. I guess that's a viable option since Baby D won't sleep in his/her nursery right away. Apparently another couple did this in the past. I think it's a good alternative to a gender neutral theme. I don't know??? Decisions, decisions.....
